The Semester 1 Student Reports will be distributed on Monday, 26 June 2017. This will provide parents the opportunity to read their child’s report and also arrange a time to meet with their child’s teacher before the holidays, if required.
At North Perth Primary School we will be reporting using the Department of Education templates for all year levels, including Kindergarten.
Although the Kindergarten template is optional the teachers have elected to use it as they consider it to be more comprehensive than the school-devised template. The components of the Kindergarten report template are:
- Student learning and development within five learning and development areas;
- Suggestions for parents on how they may support their child’s learning at home;
- A record of attendance; and
- Overall comments.
Reports can mean anxious times for students and parents. Students may wonder if their parents will be pleased or disappointed with their effort and achievement. Before reading their child’s report parents may find it helpful to reflect on the approach they will take when commenting or discussing their child’s report with them as it may impact on how they see themselves as learners.
Michael Gross, author and founder of Parenting Ideas, is one of Australia’s leading parenting educators, and he has prepared a short video to help parents reflect and be in the right frame of mind before they look at their children’s reports. It also includes some ideas on how to make the most of the second half of the year. Please follow the link below to watch this video.
