Dear Families

I would like to introduce myself as the new Chair of the School Board. I have been living in North Perth since 2015 and have two children attending the school, Isla (Year 3) and Preston (Pre-primary). Since joining the school community, I have been inspired by the innovative and dedicated people I have met who help to make the school a happy place for learning.

I work in public education as a speech pathologist and bring to the Board specialist knowledge in oral language and literacy development, and evidenced-based practice in education. Serving on the Board is a privileged opportunity for me to make a meaningful contribution, represent the parent community and ultimately support the school to achieve better outcomes for your children.

I’d like to thank retiring Chair, Kati Tonkin, for six years of outstanding leadership, during which she has worked tirelessly to serve the needs of an evolving, strong community. Kati led the establishment and review of many school policies and projects, including the development of the school’s vision in 2015.  In recent years, Kati played a key role in the school’s successful application for Independent Public-School (IPS) status, and subsequent development of the school’s first Business Plan. Kati’s professionalism and devotion will certainly be difficult to match! Fortunately, Kati will remain on the Board as a Community Representative until September 2018.

As a parent, I understand that your child’s well-being and their academic and social development are of the highest importance. I believe that every child should be supported to achieve their best, whatever their ability or circumstance. When families, schools and communities work together, children usually do better and are happier at school. Your input and feedback on all Board related matters is therefore strongly valued and encouraged.

The school is well into the second year as an IPS and there are many initiatives underway to support students, as outlined in the recently published Business Plan. I look forward to working closely with the Board members to support the school during this exciting time.

Warmest wishes

Anna Taylor
