As first light broke over North Perth Primary around two hundred parents, teachers, students and members of the wider community gathered for the Anzac Dawn Service. It was a very special occasion marking 100 years since the first Australian troops landed on the shores of Gallipoli beginning the legend of the Anzacs.
The service was a sombre and respectful event lead outstandingly by our Year 6 students Beth, Lachlan, Lucien and Tamsyn. The Ode was read by former North Perth student Mr Bill Rae. Bill first attended North Perth Primary School eighty years ago when life was very different for students. He recalled digging trenches on the oval to support the war effort during the WW11 and receiving the cane for simply talking in class. It was a great privilege to have Bill return to his old school after so many years.
We would like to thank the students from Kindy to Year 6 who laid wreaths during the service in such a respectful manner. We were very fortunate to have a live bugler, Christopher Lee, from Mount Lawley Senior High. He played The Last Post and Reveille, brilliantly.
The service was followed by a breakfast of bacon, egg and spinach rolls, tea and coffee. This was sponsored and organised by the North Perth P&C. We would like to thank all the parents, staff and students who contributed to making this such a success. We would especially like to that Andrea King, Phil Sarich and Jemma Day for all you effort leading up to this event.
