I am an Early Childhood teacher who has been teaching since 1999. During this time I have taught Kindergarten, Pre-primary and Year One in a number of both country and metropolitan schools.
I believe that children are both capable and competent learners who have a natural curiosity about their world and the people within it. I believe children learn by exploring the parts of their world that are important to them, as well as begin to develop an awareness of themselves as part of a wider community. Children are filled with an innate enthusiasm for inquiry, investigation and learning and I aim to foster those dispositions towards learning within my classroom.
The role of an effective early childhood teacher is to plan and deliver a program which is a balance between teacher directed learning opportunities and child directed play and learning. Within my classroom, you will see the explicit teaching of English, Mathematics, Geography, History and Science understandings and processes, in whole class, small group or individual settings, as well as seeing children making decisions about their own experiences during the day.
My room is planned to cater for many interests and types of learners and includes constant positives such as painting, art table, construction, puzzles, home corner, blocks, reading and writing/drawing centres, as well as opportunities for creativity and problem solving.
Above all of that, my goal for teaching young children is for them to love their day at school. I loved my Pre-primary years at school and want the children in my class to have the same happy memories.
