Pre-primary

The Pre-primary class has had an amazing start to the year. The children were very quick to learn how to look after their belongings and to follow class routines. At the same time they were very busy getting to know each other by working together in both large and small groups.

The whole class discussed what sort of activities they would like to do. So far we have been able to incorporate these into our program. This included a session each week where the children can tell jokes. As you can imagine, the children are very inventive with their joke telling, and they laugh at all of the jokes regardless of whether they are funny or not.

While learning rhymes about fish, the children investigated the properties of magnets. They made fishing rods with magnetic hooks to catch sea creatures they had created.

When learning the rhyme Humpty Dumpty, each child designed and made a protective cover for real eggs. They then dropped the eggs to see if they would break. The children proved to be better designers than the “soldiers and king’s men” by being able to put broken eggs back together again. The repaired eggs are displayed in our room.

We are also learning about recycling and began by using old cardboard boxes and curtains to plan and build cubbies inside and outside the classroom. You can see photos of these amazing creations on the door of our room.

Pre Primary/Kindergarten

What a busy start to the year! The kindergarten and pre-primary students have been learning about nursery rhymes and fairytales so far this term and have done lots of singing and fun activities! The students have been very busy getting to know each other and the daily routines that foster independence, organisational skills and a sense of responsibility for their learning environment. We have also been learning new songs and dances which help us remember and learn new concepts.

Thank you to those parents who have already helped us out by volunteering to make play dough and doing the washing. We look forward to having you in our class soon as parent helpers!
