Music
All children at North Perth Primary from Pre-primary to Year 7 take part in a music program with a specialist for one hour each week.
Helen MacPherson is our music specialist: A quote from Mrs Mac...
Music has always been a integral part of my life. From early childhood I enjoyed the family experience of playing and singing together. I have been involved in music in schools since 1987, and have taught throughout the state.
I believe that music has the power to create harmony throughout a school and permeates the community.
I am very interested in the whole area of Arts, and take an approach that incorporates both visual and performing arts. In class I use an eclectic approach incorporating solfa singing, body and instrument percussion, and creative activities. In doing so the children participate in a process of learning and practising skills, integrating these skills through creative activities and then communicating their ideas through performance.
The School of Instrumental Music (SIM) All WA Department of Education schools have access to music tuition through the School of Instrumental Music (SIM). The SIM students at North Perth Primary School learn to play the violin, cello or double-bass. The students practise and perform as part of the school’s music ensemble. The students are tested for music aptitude though testing. More information is available at: www.sim.iinet.net.au.
